Notes From Shane

Dopamine

I was going to write this week about my network, but I’m going to hold off on that because I’m feeling inspired by something else.

In early July, I bumped into a new person on one of the dating apps, and we’ve been chatting for a little bit now. It's honestly pretty scary how similar we are, but relieving, I don't have to mask around him, and I think he truly enjoys me because I’m “delightfully odd,” in his words.

It's new for me to feel this way; a string of bad relationships and dates have put my guard pretty high. But after two adventures together, I’m honestly glad that’s slowly changing.

Let's talk about Saturday, our second adventure together. To the Cornell Botanical Gardens, which is truly lovely in its own right. I’ve always enjoyed nature's silence, even in the middle of a bustling college town. It was hot, and I was gross per usual, but we hiked a little (in the wrong clothes) and even looked at old phones and typewriters in a little thrift store. It was weird how natural things felt. We even held hands and stole picked tomatoes.

Even though a high-dopamine day like that is hard to come down from, mostly with my brain thinking, “what if this person hates you and blocks you forever.” I’m not sure that's the case; even though we’re still testing the waters to see if something serious is in store, I have a good feeling about him. It's nice to feel like you can be yourself around folks, even when you’re a little weird like me.

That's my self-growth for the moment, moving on from bad things and seeing that just a little faith and trust can make lovely new things and memories.

Also, If anyone out there has a repair manual for the IBM Wheelwriter 3, send it over via electronic mail to blog@mail.256qam DOT com (and I’ll give you an internet cookie)

Anywho, may dreams of pumpkins and sugarplums fill your dreams.

Tootles, Shane
