Notes From Shane

Welcome back and Calling friends from space!

“Welcome back” is what I hear as Daniel and I walk into the tiny Chinese restaurant that is 30 minutes North of our house, but serves amazing tofu. We come to this one because it’s in the best location, next to the lake and we can just sit and listen to the waves against the rock wall. It’s a sleepy town in the winter that’s internationally recognized for its racing prowess and its beautiful gorges. But I guess that’s why we love living in a vacation destination for so many. Recently I saw this as millions flocked to upstate New York from all around the world to see the 2024 solar eclipse. We viewed the eclipse from our favorite state park.

Daniel and I have also been going on more hikes, and we recently got a Satellite phone from Globalstar. I got it to call home and check in with Mom when we’re out of cellular coverage, but I’ve also been using it to call friends when I can. I called Coulter during the eclipse, and I’ve called Nick a bunch with it. It’s so different than making the call on my phone, and one could say calling via Space sounds pretty good.

I guess being connected is something that makes me feel pretty safe. Antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds never seemed to work for me, but a multi-billion dollar satellite network works pretty well.

Anywho, until next time. Tohdaloo! Shane
